A CHURCH STEEPED IN HISTORY

Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, [and] I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
Our fore parents stepped out in faith to organize and establish a church which they named Little Mine Road Baptist Church. Never mind that they were still in slavery, uneducated, without land, money, or building materials-but they had Jesus. Because of their faith, He saw that they accumulated what was needed. A good fight is a fight of persistence. To fight a good fight is to willingly and against all odds fight until the war is over.

Little Mine Road continues to be a wonderful example of a “fighting a good fight.” In the loss of pastors and members, we did not bow or bend, nor break from the call. Instead, we pressed on through preaching and teaching God’s word. This enduring persistence, has been the legacy left by the generations before us.
Early records indicate that Little Mine Road Baptist Church originated from a Caucasian church named Mine Road Baptist. An Indian tent and a brush arbor were used for worshipping. After a while, perhaps a period of years, a need was seen for a frame building. Later, one half acre of land was purchased and a building was constructed. The first known leader of the congregation was Rev. Buck Campbell.
The first frame building fell into decay and another was built and dedicated in 1902. This building remained as a place of worship for the congregation until 1974. In 1965, plans were discussed to construct a new church building. A committee was selected, and with a sum of $100.00, a building fund was started. With God guiding the then pastor, Rev. Herman Ellis and congregation, they continued to push on. In 1968, prayers were answered and a ground-breaking ceremony for their present structure were held and construction began. In November 1974, members and guest gathered in the old church building for one last time and walked together in prayer to the new church.

A church cannot be a church without a strong leader and a congregation willing to work together. Since November 1974, many members have worked together to continue to improve our House of Worship. Deacon Vanward Stanard, Sr. completed the basement, added a new addition to the church, and installed a handicap ramp and a handicap bathroom, while Deacon Carl Ward, Sr. installed a baptismal pool. These are only some of the improvements that have been made.

Our intent is to press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. For all God’s wondrous works, we thank him and welcome all who come in search of a relationship with Christ.
